Arrest Records in Franklin County
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Benton Police, West Frankfort Police, Christopher Police, Illinois State Police, and other authorized agencies may make arrests in the county. The arresting agency creates the incident or arrest report. If the person enters the Franklin County Jail, jail staff create a separate booking record with intake data, fingerprints, a photo, presented charges, and custody status.
Later records belong to other custodians. The State's Attorney decides what charges to file, the Circuit Clerk maintains the resulting court case, and Illinois State Police receives reportable fingerprint arrest data and later dispositions. A complete arrest history may therefore require several sources. The sheriff does not become custodian of a Benton police narrative merely because the person was booked at the county jail.

Begin with the source closest to the event. A recent booking may appear in custody data before prosecutors file a case or before a disposition reaches the state repository. Names can be misspelled, and a person may have been released or transferred. Use dates, agency, case number, or booking number whenever possible.

- Identify the arresting agency. Request its incident report, and request the booking sheet separately from the sheriff when applicable.

A written request should name the record type and include the incident or booking number when known, a narrow date and time range, location, involved agency, and preferred electronic or paper format. Ask for all nonexempt portions and accept lawful redaction. Request a cost estimate before chargeable copying begins.

For a Benton police event, the Benton FOIA form requests a name, address, represented person or entity if any, a specific description, signature, and date.
The Benton source directs the police-report side of the search, while the Franklin County Jail remains the source for a related booking.
Recent Franklin County Bookings
No continuous official Franklin County web blotter was verified. The sheriff historically published arrest-report PDFs, and an official 2022 example proves that format once existed. It is not a live booking log. Current recent-arrest routes are the sheriff app, the jail phone, sheriff news channels, and a focused records request.
A roster or app result usually answers a current-custody question. Entries can disappear after release or transfer, and new bookings may take time to post. Absence from the app does not prove that no arrest occurred. Call (618) 438-4841, then request the booking record if a past or recent intake must be confirmed.
When calling, provide the complete name and a narrow arrest or booking date range, then ask whether the person was released, transferred, or never admitted. For a written request, identify the arresting agency and seek the booking number, intake time, initial charges, bond or hold, and release or transfer fields that can lawfully be released. Request the police narrative separately from the agency whose officer made the arrest. This two-source check is important for Benton, West Frankfort, and Christopher arrests because city police can create the report while the county jail creates the intake record.

Franklin Booking Charges Can Change
Initial charges on a Franklin County booking are provisional allegations. The State's Attorney may file different counts, amend them, or decline prosecution. The Circuit Clerk's docket then records what was filed and how each count ended. A booking sheet cannot supply that final answer.

Franklin County arrest records and conviction records document different stages and come from different custodians. Compare the booking with the filed court case and final disposition. ISP's public UCIA product emphasizes Illinois conviction information, while ISP Access and Review is the stronger route for checking and challenging one's own full Illinois record.
